Permitting & Compliance Review

BoydH2 has considerable experience gaining project approvals using advanced designs and innovative risk mitigation strategies that meet the intent of the codes but do not meet all specific code requirements.  In the rapidly developing world of hydrogen vehicle fueling systems, the technology will be “ahead” of the prescriptive requirements in the Fire Code, Building Code and NFPA-2.

Risk Reviews

Risk Reviews validate a design and may result in action items that require additional layers of protection before design certification.  Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) methods are used to quantify and manage risk through the development, design, build, test and deployment processes.

Layer of Protection Analysis

Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) is a method used to evaluate high-consequence scenarios determining if the combination of probability of occurrence and severity of consequences meets a company’s risk tolerance.

Alternative Materials and Methods

Built into every adopted code in America is the concept that technology is always improving, The specific provisions of the adopted codes are not intended to prevent the installation of any material, any method of construction not specifically prescribed by the code.

NFPA-2: Chapter 1.5 : Equivalency

Most local fire codes in America are based on the ICC Codes and reference NFPA-2, the Hydrogen Technologies Code as the primary code applicable to permitting hydrogen vehicle fueling stations, vehicle repair stations,

NOTE: Chapter 1.5.1 provides that nothing in the code  is intended to prevent the use of systems, methods, or devices of equivalent or superior quality, strength, fire resistance, effectiveness, durability, and safety over those prescribed by this code.
