Boyd Hydrogen, LLC

Boyd Hydrogen, LLC specializes in the development of hydrogen infrastructure and codes and standards to support the deployment of H2 Fuel Cell vehicles.

BoydH2 is led by Bob Boyd who has over 40 years of hydrogen project experience: developing industrial scale hydrogen systems for metallurgical production systems and since 1999, hydrogen vehicle deployments.

Beginning in 2000, Bob has focused his hydrogen system design skills and project development efforts on hydrogen vehicle fueling technology.

In 2002 Boyd developed and innovative hydrogen fueling station using an advanced dual service consolidating compressor system built into a prefabricated system module with integral overhead composite storage for the BOC/NRCan H2 fueling at the University of British Columbia.  This project resulted in two Position Papers at CGA and the begging of the acceptance of hydrogen vehicle fuel tank technology in ground storage and tube trailer applications

In 2004 Boyd developed the BOC indoor fueling protocol and indoor fueling system for the first hydrogen FCV forklifts deployments. This first generation indoor fueling system “the Beta Fueler” was deployed at two Walmart distribution centers near Columbus Ohio. This simple “fixed orifice” indoor fueling system was introduced into annex material of NFPA-2 and the basis for SAE J-2601-3. One of the of the improved variations includes the system installed at an ACE Hardware distribution center in Rocklin California.

In  2007after the Linde acquisition of BOC, Boyd brought the Linde / BMW liquid hydrogen dispenser technology to the USA. Featuring a design to IEC 60079 electrical standards, Boyd developed a method to connect the system to the NEC local infrastructure and developed a transportable liquid hydrogen fueling station system that was operated in numerous locations throughout California and USA.

Incorporated in 2011, Boyd Hydrogen, LLC supports a wide range of clients involved in the pathways to a hydrogen-powered future, including technology providers, hydrogen vehicle fueling station developers and operators, Department of Energy funded research and local government agencies.
